This Queen Anne Pistol is cast from an antique by John Harmon. The screw barrel flintlock action with sliding safety is stocked with a walnut grip, and trimmed in brass furniture. Assembled by Ken Brady, this pistol is offered in new condition with a bright bore that is ready to shoot. A great deal about these early pistols can be found in the book The Queen Anne Pistol, 1660-1780 by John W. Burgoyne. A nice accessory for any 18th Century impression. This pistol weighs 1.6 pounds.
From above the 6-1/4" long .54 caliber rifled "cannon” barrel has a ringed muzzle and three raised rings. The bore is straight rifled with seven lands and grooves. The bore is bright, clean, and ready to shoot. The barrel is polish bright, and no sights are fitted, nor are any expected on this style of pistol. With it's barrel screwed off, the pistol is easily reloaded. After filling the powder chamber with the main charge, one simply places the round ball on the concave surface of the chamber and screws the barrel down around it. Using slightly over sized balls the barrel will turn down tight but will assure that the ball properly engages the rifling when fired.
Stocked in black walnut with a hand rubbed oil finish. The pistol has a bright finish on the barrel, action, and brass furniture. Since this was cast from an antique, the original engraving designs and marks are visible, but have a worn look due to the polishing. These could either be chased, or with time and patina it will give the gun a very worn aged appearance. The bottom of the action is marked JOHN HARMAN, along with three British proof marks. The top of the action faintly reads London. The short flared tang has a good amount of the original engraving pattern visible.
The grip is fitted with a large grotesque mask buttcap. This buttcap design is thought to date from the first two decades of the 18th century. The buttcap is brightly polished, and this has removed some of the fine detail. A steel screw secures the buttcap. A cast brass sideplate with a martial theme consisting of cannons, standards, and armor is fitted on the left side of the grip. A cast brass thumbpiece is found on top of the grip. The steel trigger guard is engraved with a floral design, and borders along the edges. The triggerguard also acts as a sliding safety. Push the triggerguard fully back toward the grip to allow engagement of the full cock notch. The vent is well centered on the pan for fast ignition and the trigger provides a smooth release.
This screw barrel pistol will be a joy to shoot at the range. It will also look good tucked into your sash at your next reenactment. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
