This handy measure has a brass telescoping head, and rosewood handle. The head is securely mounted to the handle with a brass pin. Adjustable cup telescopes to lock in place, measure lead, bismuth, and steel shot. With steel, simply count out pellets or weigh and set dipper accordingly. Calibrated in drams and oz. of shot.

Adjustable cup is calibrated in ounces of shot, and drams of powder. Marked correctly with clearly visible large numbers. You may recall that "there are 7,000 plump grains of wheat in the King's pound". Each pound is divided in 16 ounces. Each ounce is divided into 16 drams. Thus, each dram is about 27.34 grains.

The head is marked in old English fashion. The calibrations are read from the top left position. The top row of numbers is oz. The bottom is drams. Each position is marked with a whole number and a fraction. If there is not enough room the whole number is omitted and the fractional marking it is moved to the lower side of the slot.

The telescoping head adjusts from top to bottom to these calibrations.
